The NCR 2127 register system has been around since the mid-1980s, long before the use of debit cards and PIN-based transactions and many people incorrectly think that it cannot possibly be modified to handle DUKPT.
With the 2127, NCR created an incredible workhorse with the flexibility to handle changes in the grocery industry that could never have been envisioned 20 years ago. Because of this forward-thinking design, grocers have the ability to add new technology to their existing 2127 systems, such as thermal printers, electronic journals and, now, DUKPT, while still protecting their existing infrastructure investment. After all, in today’s economy, what grocer wants to spend upwards of $10,000 per lane to change their front-end system when they can reap the same benefits at a tiny fraction of the cost.
There is a strong need within the 2127 customer base for an answer to the DUKPT and NCR 2127 issue. Although some grocers are ready for new front-end systems, others demanded an alternative in order to bolster their bottom line in a difficult economy.
Vesper Software’s technical staff has spent a number of years working with the NCR 2127 and
understand its capabilities well. d-PIN+ was created and the certification process with the various card authorization networks
has begun.
d-PIN+ consists of the following components:
-
The d-PIN+ user exit module.
-
The DUKPT-compliant load for the PIN pad. The PIN pad itself must be able to support
DUKPT:
-
Verifone OMNI 490
-
Verifone OMNI7000MPD
-
Verifone Everest
-
VerifoneEverestPlus
-
Documentation on register program changes.
