Vesper Software, LLC was established in 1994 to provide software solutions that fill the gaps in existing retail POS applications. Our "Gap Technology" focus provides grocers with NCR 2127® registers the essential tools needed to meet current requirements without having to spend upwards of $10,000 per lane to replace their front-end systems. After all, the NCR 2127® is an incredible workhorse that was created with enough flexibility to handle changes in the grocery industry that could never have been envisioned 20 years ago. Because of this forward-thinking design, grocers are able to add new technology to these registers, such as thermal printers, electronic journals and, now, support for DUKPT and GTIN (14 digit PLUs), at a tiny fraction of the cost of replacing the registers.

The BRdata Interface provides the ability to use BRdata’s Retail BOSS back office package with the NCR 2127®. The package consists of:
- DataSpanner Hardware
- Serial Cable to connect DataSpanner to DB9 Serial Port on the PC
- (optional) USB Bridge which connects the serial cable to a USB port on the PC
- Cable to connect DataSpanner to Master Register *
- CD containing all required software
* There are two types of cables available to connect the DataSpanner to the Master Register. S4 Interface

The S4 Retail Solutions Interface provides the ability to communicate between the S4 back office package and the NCR 2127® via industry standard serial ports, instead of requiring a DLC card in an ISA slot in the PC. The package consists of:

VesperLink Interface

The VesperLink Interface is a hardware and software package that works in conjunction with a store’s existing back office package or centralized hosting system. The interface provides the ability to read and update data on the NCR 2127® via industry standard serial ports, instead of requiring a DLC card in an ISA slot in the PC.
The support programs are:

A PLU Maintenance program to add, change or delete PLUs on the register. -
An Item Movement program which pulls movement, sales totals, etc. to the PC and resets the file on the register. -
A Cashier Daily Totals Report program which pulls the daily totals for all active cashiers from the register to the PC and resets those totals on the register. -
A Data Capture transfer program which pulls either the Item Data Capture file or the Report Data Capture file from the register and resets those files. -
A Daily Financial Report program, which formats the Report Data Capture, file. -
A Download UPCs program which pulls all UPCs/PLUs that exist on the register. -
Various utility programs to rename files and to select files to be processed.

User Exits

VesperExits is our base user exit package that provides functionality that is not part of the standard NCR 2127® operating system.
The list of functions includes:

VesperOptions
User Exits

VesperOptions are user exit modules that we offer in addition to or instead of the basic functionality included in VesperExits. These can be combined in a variety of ways. Prices are per store, not per lane.
This module allows users to scan or key in 14 digit PLUs (required for GTIN compliance). Scanning currently supports UPC-A+2, EAN-14 labels and RSS-14 labels. Support for RSS-14 depends up scanners that can read RSS-14 barcodes (such as the NCR 7875®).
Customers running the WINEPS user exit from MTXEPS wanted more functionality so we were granted permission by MTXEPS to incorporate other features into WINEPS. We can add custom features, functions from VesperExits, 14 Digit PLUs, etc. Vesper Software’s DUKPT module is not required with enhanced WINEPS since WINEPS is already
DUKPT-compliant.
DUKPT is an industry initiative that makes the encryption of PINs from debit cards extremely secure. Standard NCR 2127® programming was not designed to support the transmission of DUKPT PINs from the PIN pad to the card processor, therefore grocers requested this module to overcome that shortcoming. Contact us for further information regarding which PIN pads are supported and the go-live dates for various card
processors.
These modules consist of three components – the user exit functionality, hardware (same as required for VesperLink) and PC software. These modules will send the information captured on either the journal or receipt to the PC for capture in a database. This information can be viewed in real-time as it is captured. The data is also searchable by many criteria.
We can also create custom user exits and provide these as stand-alone user exits or combine them with our other modules. Examples are CashPlus which adds a flat percentage to the total sale and MLink which allows additional PLU links to be used (e.g., PLU A -> PLU B -> PLU C).
Using S&H greenpoints® in an NCR 2127® environment requires this user exit module to send the information necessary to track customer points to S&H.

Electronic Journals

Our EJournal software package allows stores to process the item data capture file that is collected at the Master Register and pulled back to a PC via an existing back office package or via our VesperLink product. Stores can choose to load the IDC file daily into a database or only on an as-needed basis, while keeping the raw data files for long term archival purposes. A variety of reports, ranging from full journal to duplicate receipts to cashier tracking, are available with this software. This product gives stores a way to utilize thermal printers while still keeping the journal data that is needed to support store financial information (for the IRS) or to research problems (such as duplicate charges to a customer’s credit card).
